Playing Mid Wars - the good, the bad, and..of course the evil

Hah!
mid wars
Have you been hooked to this latest craze in Heroes of Newerth? If not, you're missing a lot. I've been playing mid wars for quite some time now and I just want to say that it's awesome. Why?

Here are some reasons:

New Features:

  • There are teleporters that allows players to travel to the action half the time using teleporting relics in Grim's Crossing.
  • Zorgath and Transmutanstein are the new bosses in this map. If you get these bosses, you will get amazing buffs - Token of sight and a double damage + invi!

The Good!

  • It's a risk free way to play Hon.
  • You will love the action.
  • No gold loss!
  • Fast Death timers!
  • You will be better in playing in clashes in the normal game.
The Bad and Evil!
  • Most players don't know the meta game.
  • The noobs who always die feed so much.
  • There are lots of imbalanced heroes for this game mode.

Anyway, despite of these

Some ticks and tricks!

  • Always try to get some AOE for early game.
  • Go for capacity to fight. But stat items for more mana/health early. Remember, you can go home fast anyway. It's much better than buying consumables.
  • If you're a carry, make sure you have massive damage.
That's all for now folks. Let me know what's your favorite hero!

Kinesis joins Newerth - HoN Hero Spotlight

It's great to see new intelligence heroes being introduced. Kinesis has lots of AOE power. I'm excited to see the actual stats of this hero. He has a tournament potential!

I'm thinking that this hero would be so squishy but needs a lot of mana to become effective. Therefore you need to make a perfect balance between being tanky and having lots of mana.

Anyway, here's the basic hero spotlight! Enjoy!

The Prophet teaches that energy flows through all things, we must only harness it for ourselves. The mages invoke incantations, the priests call upon gods wicked and just, but for the truly powerful, the power is harnessed from within. These are the Disciples of the Way and among them there is one known for his mastery over all -- Kinesis. Let the Hellbourne beware the power of his mind.
Kinesis relies heavily on the manipulation of the nearby units so that he may lift and launch smaller objects as projectiles. Being a ranged, intellect hero, his mind is a powerful asset, and also allows him to absorb much of the incoming damage by being offensive. Early game items such as Power Supply, Grave Locket, and a Bottle are great for keeping him powered up and buff with stats. Steamboots fit well, providing additional health, or a clutch swap to int for the bonus mana to launch one last assault. Nullstone is an extremely effective item, further boosting his defensive prowess and providing much-needed mana regeneration. As he fights with his mind, and not fists, most attack modifiers will pale in comparison to helpful gear like Frostfield Plate, or Kuldra's Sheepstick. Inherent defense works by providing a shield for all damage attempted, and not actually done, so Spellshards won't further increase his tanking capacity, nor reduce the cooldown on his Telekinetic Lift charges, but it still may prove a valuable tool for offensive damage. Stormspirit fits in nicely, adding another disable, high mana regeneration, and allowing Kinesis to set up properly. In the end, Kinesis may wish to build for stats, defense, and mana regeneration over attack damage. When fully geared up, Kinesis can become hard to kill while also being very powerful in attacking.

Draconis Lane Phase Annihilation

I was browsing in Youtube and I've seen this video about Draconis who did an Annihilation while in the laning phase. Well, this guy did a good job in doing it. But perhaps we don't know the MMR of everyone here. And maybe because not everyone is not yet used to the damage of his spells. The range of the 1st skill is also annoying.

Again this kind of thing happens once in a while. I personally hate people posting stuff like this in youtube without saying more details like what's the mmr level etc.
If I remember it correctly, (I'm playing in 1700 MMR), I was playing Flux against Draconis at Mid. I can't really own that reptile because his skills' damage is a pain. I'm not even sure how we won but yeah, I just continued farming at mid, controlled the rune and ganked when there's a chance.

Team TrollCasting giving away Legacy Keys

Damn! I was 30 seconds late and everything was used up! This is how people are crazy about getting those Legacy Accounts!

Team TrollCasting has been very generous in giving away free Heroes of Newerth Legacy Keys! They said they're doing it to reciprocate the support that we're giving them in their Facebook page. And I quote:
"Remember guys.. every 50 likes we will give away a bonus 20 keys.. so 3200, 3250 and 3300 likes.. GET US THERE!!!"
This is what they said. So I guess we just have to wait for the next release. Here's what their Facebook Page looks like a few minutes a go:

And to those who were wondering what's the importance of getting a Legacy account, well, the first thing that goes to my head is that you got access to all of the old heroes and that's about it!

So there. If you're tired of using the heroes that were 'free' to use in the game, then go and like Team Trollcasting's Facebook page and wait for them to release another set of keys.

Cheers!

Draconis: New hero in HoN | HoN Hero Spotlight

After Berzerker, another gimmicky hero is being introduced to Newerth - Draconis. Everyone thought that Berzerker was so IMBA/OP. Well, to be honest, yes and no. The bottom line is you can shut him down at early game. He doesn't have AOE spells to farm fast at the early game.

Draconis on the other hand seems to have a potential in quick farming. Very promising. His spells are also deadly. I'm assuming this hero would have mana problems at early levels. His ulti is very item dependent so you need to farm fast in order to own.

I would like to try this hero myself. I might play it like nomad or something. A bit tanky with damage..

Here's the video and enjoy!

The fiery dragon, Draconis, has awoken. As searing flames lick the charred scales accenting his face, a roar is let loose - the World Tree must be defended! Even Pyromancer would be scared of all the fire brought forth. As a ranged agility hero, Draconis can lay waste to his enemies with attacks, and should focus on doing damage and increasing his attack speed.

Draconis would benefit the most from Steamboots, as the attack speed and defensive capabilities are the most fitting. Ghost Marchers can be nice for the damage, but Blazing Flight already grants a great movespeed boost along with unit walking, so they're redundant. Frostburn has proven to be a great item for the bonus damage, health, and snare needed to keep the barrage of Cataclysmic Assault going longer. Since most of Draconis' spells are low mana cost, a chalice provides all the mana needed, if you opt to go for a heavy Q build for ganking. Since Cataclysmic Assult propegates attack modifiers, items such as Savage Mace and Frostwolf Skull synergize nicely for huge damage and a giant slow. Charged Hammer will only proc on the main attack, however, with the increased attack speed boost and AoE damage, it's still a viable alternative to Savage Mace. Wingbow can be used as a tech item for the defensive stats it grants through evasion and armor, but Shrunken Head is the ultimate defensive item to allow full use of Cataclysmic Assault and maximum damage.

Flux - a potential in tournaments?

I'm seeing a very big potential of Flux in Tournaments. There are a lot of heroes that could prove a good synergy with his ulti. Some examples that I can think of:

Flux + Kraken + Bombardier

Flux + Plague Rider

Flux + Tempest

Flux + Pyromancer + Pebbles

Flux + Engineer

Flux + Bubbles + Hellbringer

There are a lot of options. What do you guys think?

My new headset for playing HoN

This might be out of the topic but I became really competitive nowadays. I bought my very own headset so that it will be easier to play and chat at the same time. I will see how it will improve my game tonight. Anyway here's a picture of my headset ---->

Reasons why I chose this model:

  • It's not that expensive.
  • This behind-the head headset relieves pressure and keepsme comfortable for hours.
  • The flexible, noise-canceling microphone cuts background noise. Very nice when playing HoN
  • You can plug into your sound card via 3.5 mm jacks or connect digitally to any USB port for enhanced audio.
So there you go. If I were you guys, invest in this kind of headset to be better in your game. One of the major advantages of playing HoN is that they have a built in VoIP software. So what the !@#$ is VoIP and why is it important?

VoIP means Voice over Internet Protocol. It is a family of technologies, methodologies, communication protocols, and transmission techniques for the delivery of voice communications and multimedia sessions over Internet Protocol (IP) networks, such as the Internet. Other terms frequently encountered and often used synonymously with VoIP are IP telephony, Internet telephony, voice over broadband (VoBB), broadband telephony, and broadband phone.

This is very important in playing HoN because it promotes communication between the team. One of the major reasons why we lose sometimes is because the setter thought it was a go but you guys are still far away, or sometimes the timing is not right.

I can remember Arby Jao from team flow during his DotA days communicating to everyone in the team to make sure that everyone is ready or is in there at the right moment. It's a struggle if they're not playing in the same room because he can't talk to his team mates. What more if all of us don't know each other and are just playing online.

I'm also watching Yoda in his live channel and I notice that almost everyone are making use of the voice chat. If you're not still convinced, well just look at their psrs in their match making.

Enjoy guys! GL GF

Stop being a scrub! be a pro! Play in Banning Draft/Banning pick game mode

Most of the time I play all pick/single draft game mode. Since I'm playing alone, it's either I get to play with a decent team or play with scrubs. The problem when you play with scrubs is that it's auto lose eating your hard earned psr. It's hard if you're playing carry and you don't have much support. Or you're supporting your carry but he simply can't play carry coz his skill level is not that good.

Now, to remove all of these excuses (playing with scrubs and all that), better play in banning drafts or banning pick. As a bit of FYI, Banning Draft (BD) is something new in HoN where two players - Blue and Pink (who serves as captains for both teams) will ban four heroes from a pool of 24 drafted heroes, then alternate ten picks from the remaining pool of 20 heroes. The sequence would be 1-2-2-2-2-1. Banning Pick (BP) on the other hand is almost the same. This was used in DotA in Captain's mode so I'm pretty sure all of you guys know this. The only difference of BP in BD is that you will ban 3 heroes and pick from all of the heroes in HoN.

Either way, these game modes make the lineup of heroes pretty much balanced. (Well that is if you ban and pick the right heroes for your team and by the way, this is not a guide for playing BD/BP but to encourage you guys to use this game mode or join this game mode in public games)

So yeah! Here are some of the benefits that I can see:

Learn how to pick. Of course this will be the first benefit when you play using these game modes. Banning and picking heroes is quite complicated than it seems. It's like playing chess, you need to think 10 moves ahead. You need to always think why did the other team picked that hero. And of course you need to decide on what strategy your captain would decide on. You will be like a in marionette shows or puppet shows and your captain will be the puppeteer. Always trust on your captain and do what he wants. Believe in him and everything will be alright. What heroes work with each other? What are the imba combos that needs to be stopped? Do you have solo laner? Is your lineup a clash lineup? focused on gank? focused on AOE? focused on pushing? etc etc etc...

Here are some examples of counters:
  • Hellbringer can counter Tempest (his ultimates can stop Tempest’s ultimate from long range even if tempest has bkb)
  • Electrician counters Hammerstorm and Jeraziah (Electrician’s ultimate - commonly known as purge, removes Protective Charm aka Repel and Hammerstorm’s brute strength)
  • Vindicator counters a lot of heroes esp Magmus, Tempest, Torturer and any other channeling heroes (Vindicator’s ultimate silences all heroes)
  • Pestilence, Rampage counter any heroes with invisibility (Pestilence’s ultimate exposes invisible heroes, Rampage’s Charge does as well)
  • Thunderbringer counters heroes that needs blink to cover better area of effect (Behemoth, Tempest, Magmus, Engineer etc.) Once you've used his ulti, these heroes can't blink in within 4 secs..

Experience playing with the pros. The more you play with more experienced players, the more knowledge and experience you can gain from each game. It's better to play one or two games with pros than 10 games with noobs.

When I was a newbie in DotA, I can still remember that everyone were just bashing me. I learned from those experiences. I noted their items, their movement, play style, skill build, hero combos etc. I guess the most obvious thing here is that you won't gain anything by pawning noobs/pawning unskilled pub players.

Learn new play styles and item builds. This goes hand in hand with experience with playing with pro players. When I was a noob, I read forums for item and skill builds. Thing is you can't research all of that information that you need. There's no perfect build for every hero. You need to adapt to your enemy heroes. Adapting might be hard coz you need experience. I've played with some players that looks kinda good in early game but in mid/late game, it seems that they're not that good. For me, the biggest difference between a pro and a noob in HoN would be doing the right thing at the right time. This is kinda debatable coz we have different views on what is right and what is wrong. You will know the answer of course after the game. You might even consider watching your replays to see if you're efficient in handling your hero. If you are a farmer, how fast did you farm? Were you able to support your team while farming your items? Or you simply dragged your team down early game? If you are a ganker/support, did you had a successful gank? were you able to stop their farmer from farming? etc etc.

So yeah. That's about it. Play with the pros to be pros. Good luck and have fun everyone. :)

Fear The Chipper - a new hero concept based from tinker tweaked by HoN

Okay! Finally, patch 0.3.2 was released and so as the new hero - the Chipper. I've posted the latest HoN changelog in championofnewerth if you want a more in-depth description of this hero.

I'm just happy that this hero was released earlier than expected. They released the concept in Facebook in April 5 but then after a couple of days, I can't imagine I'm playing HoN with this hero.

He's a great ganker and spammer. If you will check the cooldown of his first spell - Rocket Barrage, it's 1.5 seconds for god's sake! So ideally, if you got lots of mana, you can just spam and later on kill the enemy hero. His ulti (Sawblade Showdown) is also imba and can hypothetically work in synergy with other AoE heroes.

I'm actually thinking of writing a mini guide for this hero but I think I need more experience of using him. For now, maybe you can stick with mana regen items like null, stone blood, sheep stick stone etc. Of course since his main role is to gank, you need to buy a bottle and wards for rune control. I will write a more comprehensive guide for this hero once I've played 15-20 games using him. :)

I had one game against the Chiprel. His lane buddy is Armadon. It's really annoying coz the slow of Armadon's Goo and Chiprel's tar toss stacks. Armadon hits you while Chiprel showers you with missles. What a funky yet effective combo!

Heroes of Newerth Open Beta Starts on Wednesday, March 31 @ 4:00 PM PST (-8 GST)

I received an email today from S2 Maliken announcing that the Open Beta of Heroes of Newerth will start this Wednesday, March 31 @ 4:00 PM PST (-8 GST).

I think this is great news for everyone coz you don't need a key in order to play the game. I'm also thinking that maybe some existing players would also register a new nick (IGN) so that they can 'reset' their stats! lol I think no one wants to pay USD 20 just to reset their stats right?

WEW! so I guess no one will keep on asking me if I still have a beta key or something. If you're reading this post, share it with your friends!

Here's the email with a couple of FAQs:
Hey everyone,

I wanted to send out an email and let you guys know that we recently patched HoN to include a brand new front end interface, match making, a tutorial, optimizations, and quite a bit of polish.

To coincide with this new patch we have also announced the beginning of our Open Beta. On Wednesday, March 31 @ 4:00 PM PST (-8 GST) we will begin accepting beta registration which require no key. When Open Beta begins the pre purchase incentives of the Golden Shield, Golden Name, and Taunting (SMACKDOWN!) will no longer be given to accounts. I'd like to take this opportunity to give you guys an FAQ about what is happening. I hope this covers many of your questions.

1.) If I pre purchased prior to Open Beta will I still be able to taunt in game and have the golden shield and golden name?

Yes, those account options will remain with your account (and all subsequently purchased sub accounts) for their lifetime.

2.) What exactly are these incentives you are giving to pre purchase before the beginning of Open Beta?

Your nickname will show up as a golden color in chat & game lobbies. You will also have a special golden shield next to your name. Finally, during a match, you may taunt a player (your hero says a funny statement to the enemy) and if you kill them within a short time period of taunting them a global sound and arcade text "SMACKDOWN" is announced game wide.

3.) I want to pre purchase but the nickname I want is not available. Can I ever change my name?

Yes, all pre purchased accounts will have 1 nickname change (all existing pre purchases will also be given 1 additional nickname change). 7 days prior to the end of Open Beta and the game going retail (requiring payment to play) we will allow all pre purchased accounts to take the nickname of non pre purchased accounts. In order to successfully secure your name we suggest you pre purchase now!

4.) Will stats reset for Open Beta? Will there be a stats reset prior to the game going retail?

We will not be resetting stats during Open Beta but when we end Open Beta and go to retail all stats will be deleted from the game.

5.) Will I be able to rest my stats after retail launch of the game?

Yes, we have a reset stats option available on the website and in the game client. This stats reset will cost $20. It is priced to be a deterrent from people intentionally griefing and then just paying to reset their "sins". We priced it $10 short of a new account so that someone can keep their current name but start with a fresh slate.

6.) If I don't pre purchase the game prior to launch, what happens to my account?

When Open Beta ends all accounts that did not pre purchase will be purged from the database, this includes your banlist and your friends lists. All pre purchased accounts will keep those lists intact when we go retail.

7.) Do you feel that your system will be able to support the potential demand of the HoN Open Beta?

In an effort to control concurrent players during Open Beta due to the tremendous excitement and demand for Heroes of Newerth, we *may* have to throttle new sign ups. In the event that this action is required, when we hit our daily limit, players will have the option to pre purchase the game to have guaranteed access to the Open Beta.

8.) Will new heroes be added to the game during Open Beta?

Yes, we have many new heroes (and other content) to add to the game. In fact, look forward to seeing a new hero shortly after the start of Open Beta and a consistent flow of new content thereafter.

We hope you are as excited about this next step in HoN development as we are and I look forward to seeing you all online.

Thanks,

Maliken

Playing around with Pyromancer - a hero strategy discussion

My brother and I had this conversation yesterday about the best item build for Pyromancer. Actually we always have a lot of HoN strategy discussions everyday as we get to play with different teams.

As for my intro, let me just tell you something about this hero. He's a popular utility man, ganker and heavy nuker. Every time I play HoN, there's always someone who will pick this hero. Oh btw, this hero's counterpart in DotA is Lina. Pyro kinda strong in early game and serves well in ganks and clashes because of his double spell. He can't be considered a disabler because his AoE stun will be the first spell that he'll throw. You can't afford to wait for the right moment. Unless there are other stunners, e.g. Blacksmith/Hammerstorm.

I played around Pyro when my psr was around 1600. And not just played around but used him to his full potential. Tried several builds etc.

These are some things that I've discovered:

1. He's imba in mid!
Well obviously, casters are strong when they're high level. Early Blazing Strike (laguna) can kill the carry hero if they decided to let him farm in bottom or top.

2. You can try to steal the other team's creep stack by placing wards there then nuking their creep stack.
This is very popular. You get your domi then dominate a creep. After than, pull every minute. Either ancients/normal creeps then kill them to get an early bounty. Thing is you have an enemy pyro, he can easily get your stack. So to counter it, put wards in your creep stack as well. :)

3. The third skill is actually useful in laning.
At first I thought that it was useless but NO! It's useful. Maybe just get 1 level then it's fine. Magical damage overtime + attack speed is not that bad right?

Now, this is where our debate began.
I said the best thing to do is get Ghost marchers,bottle,bracelet/1 glowstone and wards early game. Your role is to control the runes and gank. After that, if everything goes well, you can get your Portal Key and hopefully Staff of the master.

I also added that sometimes, if early game was really owned, getting staff of the master early is not a bad idea at all. Imagine killing a carry hero like Valkyrie by just one stun and ulti? Pretty cool huh?

But then, my brother said:
It's better to get Str Steamboots, wards, then storm spirit, then portal key. I was stumped with the idea. He explained that steamboots would be like his bracers. The storm spirit would be an additional disable + movement speed. You can cyclone a fleeing hero then stun! Not a bad idea. Moreover, he said you can escape aoe spells such as epicenter/chain frost (sorry if i used the dota term). He has a point right? Thing is if you don't die, you will eventually get money to get your key and eventually staff of the master. The cooldown of key and cyclone are the same so if you want to escape from the epi. Cyclone yourself then spam your portal key to the safe place. It works for them! I tried it once and it's true.

But yeah. Thing is this doesn't fit my play style. All up to you guys on what items you want to use. I even tried using Harkon's blade. Works nice but not ideal for his role. LoL

Newerth Guide HoN beta key giveaway - 2 keys to be given

I just checked my gmail account . I received an email from Heroes of Newerth last Feb 15 with a subject of: 'Beta Invites to Heroes of Newerth for your Friends'. It seems that I received 3 beta invites. I think they're doing this because of the valentines season. Give an invite to your friend. Give love! lol Here's their email:

Since all of my friends have invites already, I've decided to give them away! I gave my beta keys in the past as well but apparently there were more and more noob HoN players around. I don't want to mess around the community by adding more scrubs to the closed beta. This is why I've decided that I'm going to give these keys to deserving people only. I have 2 left coz I gave one to my friend who's borrowing my account.

So if you think you're deserving to receive a beta key, all you have to do is write a dota hero guide of your choice. It could be a mini guide. Perhaps 500 words minimum. Please be specific in the role of the hero, items and strategy. This way, I can see if you're taking HoN seriously. You won't be writing an article if you're not into it right? Am I making any sense?

You can comment your hero guide in this post if it's really short and concise. You may also opt to email it to me at natzikun[at]gmail.com. I will be updating this post once I've sent out the beta keys. Cheers! :)

P.S. If I like your hero guide, I'll add pictures for it and post it in this blog. You can show it to your friends. Don't forget to include your IGN (in game name).

farm your psr using Chronos! - a chronos mini hero guide

My friend is borrowing my account in HoN. When I played last weekend, I was surprised to see that my psr went down from 1700++ to 1679. Moreover, my K/D ratio became 1:1. Pretty low. So yeah. I think it's safe to assume he had a hard time playing in the 1700 level considering he's still a beginner. :)

I really want to join 1700 level games so I've come up with a way to uplift/'farm' my psr using Chronos. Why Chronos? Because he's an IMBA hero. Because of his major rework, he's pretty strong early game and pretty much more powerful in end game. His ulti is more useful now and could turn the tide in an instant.

Since I've been playing Chronos in about ten straight games, I've played around with the items and came up with a mini guide. I wanna share it with you guys. Let me know what you think. :p

Chronos

The greatest inventors of the Human Legion dreamed of making an army of machine warriors to spare humans the bloody cost of war. Only one was ever created, for no one could ever find a way to quicken him. When the Hellbourne fed a stolen soul into its mechanical shell, they brought the Chronos to life and gained the benefit of this artificial monster's mastery over time itself.

Introduction:

Basically, Chronos is a carry hero. He's almost useless before in early game because he can't do anything without his ulti. But now, the buff on his first skill can help in ganks a bit. It's better to have minimal damage than none. :)

Main Strategy:

The main strategy is to farm early game. Kill steal in early game if applicable to get more money coz you will need it by mid and late game.

Game play:

Skill Build:

I usually max out the first skill first to get damage and the range of the leap. As for the 2nd and 3rd skill, it depends to your lane enemies. If you think you can kill early game. Like for example you have an electrician with you, of course you will try to level your 3rd skill before your 2nd skill. If there are a lot of nukers/casters, prioritise your 2nd skill first to play defensively. For sure you will get nuked whenever you try to get a creep. Always get your ulti in lvl 6,11 and 16.

Early game:

I usually start the game with a hatchet and a lot of consumables. Why get consumables over stat items? The answer is! Your main goal is just to farm anyway. But this doesn't necessarily mean that you won't help if your lane partner will get raped. Of course you will still try to save him like using your normal attack. But as much as possible, get all the creeps that you can get. Be greedy. Prioritise money shot over creep denies. Let your team mate do the denies.

I lane on one of the sides to buy my shield and battery later. If ever your lane gets ganked, just run away. If ever your team mates decided to gank your lane. Try to kill steal so you can have early boost of items.

Mid game:

By mid game, this is around 15-30 minutes. You should have at least steamboots, couple of soulscreamrings and lifesteal. You still farm like crazy. Avoid ganks. Remember to keep 1 townportal so that you can just timeleap and tp out whenever you're in danger. Whenever you have your ulti up, try to help your team mates especially when defending a tower.

Late game:

Late game will always be easy as long as you got around 3 items. Just rape everyone!  Leap in and kill!
Item builds:

This is the tricky part. A lot of people don't know what to do or what to prioritise after getting dominator/mask of madness.  First thing  to do is check your teammates and enemies. Are you the only carry hero? If so, you can get furry to get a farming tool. This is an assurance that you can get another item in around 10 mins or so. But if you will get furry, try to get damage and attack speed at the same time. e.g.mjolnir. :) Then just get more damage like crit/mkb.

Sorry if I'm still using dota terms coz my brain still sticks with dota..lols But anyway, if there are a lot of nukers, try to get S&Y first so will get a bit of damage. I still prefer getting mjol after S&Y then get crit to get maximum damage output. S&Y is cool in HoN because you can also slow the enemy. Really useful in ganks in late game.

If there are a lot of disables, always try to get bkb. BKB+mask of madness works for Chronos. BKB is also good against FA/moonqueen. BKB + shieldbreaker rips off casters...

Some special strategies.

Creep pulling:
I think everyone knows this. Just a bit of FYI, you can multispawn by pulling the creeps at the right time. (every 51-53rd sec) You can do this by your self by dominating a neutral creep and try to pull the strong creep camp/ancients or ask your support to do it. Maybe 5-10 stack of creeps/ancients can give you a lot of gold. Always ask your teammate to stick around for the xp and if ever the enemy will try to gank you while you're getting it.

Hero synergy:
Chrono's ulti can basically work with a lot of ulti's. FA's ulti...Plague's Ulti..You guys know this..

Bottom line:
The bottom line for Chronos is to farm early game. If you failed to farm and get your items, your team is sure lose unless you got other carries that could be imba. Always think. There's no perfect build for this hero that will be written here. Always try to counter the enemy as much as possible. I will be posting more HoN hero guides soon.

Here's the result of my hard work:
I hope you enjoyed reading this. Cheers!

hon - the real dota killer

This weekend, after jogging in UP Diliman with my girlfriend, I finally had the chance to play again in BlueSkies. To my surprise, most of the good DotA players have completely switched to HoN. At first I was reluctant to ask them why coz we were the ones who were initially excited about the launch of HoN and these guys were the ones who were saying that HoN won't be that successful so they'll stick with DotA. Now they ate their own words.

I asked the main reason why they switched. They said that HoN is the new "DotA". Since HoN is better and it's an online game, there are more tournaments and it's more accessible to 'good' but busy players because they can simply go online and play at home rather than going to a LAN shop. They also told me that they were surprised that there were actually good players in the 'Asian' servers - Malaysians, Singaporeans, Thai and Indonesians. They also get to know new picks, plays and strategies.

I always play in the lowest ping rooms so normally I get to play with Filipinos. The bad thing is that some players still adopt the GG client style - which is quite noobish and childish in a way. Like they will trash talk you before the game starts. Then if the game is not working as it is for them, they will either disconnect or just ruin the game by feeding the enemies. Well, maybe they're doing it because they simply know that the stats will be reset anyway once the game was officially launched. And it sucks coz this happened in a 1650 psr level game. :(

I also visited a couple of shops in the South (Paranaque and Las Pinas) and in the Miniski grounds (Pasay). It seems that almost half of the players are already switching to HoN. I would assume this is also happening to other big shops who prefer competitive gaming.

So yeah! Clearly, HoN is becoming more and more famous. Their game play improvements and engine advantages shoved DotA on the side. HoN has become indeed the real DotA killer.

HoN players should never 'farm' their psr

I'm doing a daily routine today - reading other people's blogs/sites. This post caught my attention.

When I first started playing HoN, I was really excited because of the new interface, stat tracking and ladder rankings. The automated reports seemed complete and accurate. Furthermore, there's this so called cheat and leaver protection so I assumed players with 1600 psr would be good enough, but NO.

I was actually surprised that playing in psr 1600-1680 was hell. Every time I play without any buddies around, I can feel that we're like losing within the first 15 minutes. Everyone wants to farm and play as a 'carry'.

In pro level dota, skilled players assume that everyone knows what to do. Your team lead might be briefing you of what's the basic strategy but implementing and carrying out the strat will only work if everyone knew their respective roles. In HoN, the same rule of the thumb applies. If you're a 'high' psr player, you're expected to do the 'right' moves. e.g. If you're Magmus (Sandking), you're expected to be a pro stunner. Once you've seen a chance of a nice stun, you'll do it right away without other people pinging you or shouting at you. You're expected to roam around and kill.

Playing with newbies is actually OK if it's for fun. You can technically farm good stats coz you can just kill them all and win the game. But the thing is you'll never learn more. There's no challenge. There's nothing to gain by owning scrubs. The big point is playing with a noob high psr player totally ruins the game.

Back in the days of Garena, there were lots of cheat exploits because most of the people won't update their Warcraft version. In HoN, if you want to manually farm your psr, it would need more resources. e.g. spare beta keys and a high powered machine that can open two HoN clients. Here's an excerpt in heroes-newerth.com that explains how to do it:
We have discovered it is possible to increase your Heroes of Newerth account statistics such as KDA ratio and PSR using multiple accounts. If you have spare beta keys you can create new accounts to use on the HoN servers; you can also run multiple instances of HoN. Therefore, make a private game with your main account and use a subsidiary account in a second instance to join the game and go on the other team. Then start feeding kills to your main account – we have managed to farm about 200 kills in 30 minutes using soulstealer against madman, thinking about what items to buy, what spots on the map to use etc. Sure enough, the unanswered kills get added to your account and your KDA improves.

Although less effective, you can also farm PSR. You need to have many subsidiary accounts and as many instances (or many friends with second accounts) running – and make a team on the enemy of 4 or 5 accounts, against your 1. This will ensure you gain a lot of PSR from the game. You then win the game and your PSR will increase. You can only do this a few times as when your PSR gets too high, it will stop letting you gain any because of the mathematic algorithm involved. Even if you make more and more fresh accounts, a team of 4 1500 players against your 1 will still not let you gain a lot of PSR at all later on.

Personally, I would say it's not worth your time to do this. Play a normal game and get genuine experience. I don't care about my stats. My PSR is almost 1.7k. My kill/death ratio is like 1.1 coz I play ‘carry’ and support. The point is everyone has a role to play. Usually if you play support, there's a higher chance that you'll die in every clash. Not everyone can be the 'star' in the game. Unless the casters totally owned early game.

I guess that's about it. I just don't want to see high psr noobs playing with pros coz it ruins the game so much.
