Draconis Lane Phase Annihilation

I was browsing in Youtube and I've seen this video about Draconis who did an Annihilation while in the laning phase. Well, this guy did a good job in doing it. But perhaps we don't know the MMR of everyone here. And maybe because not everyone is not yet used to the damage of his spells. The range of the 1st skill is also annoying.

Again this kind of thing happens once in a while. I personally hate people posting stuff like this in youtube without saying more details like what's the mmr level etc.
If I remember it correctly, (I'm playing in 1700 MMR), I was playing Flux against Draconis at Mid. I can't really own that reptile because his skills' damage is a pain. I'm not even sure how we won but yeah, I just continued farming at mid, controlled the rune and ganked when there's a chance.

Team TrollCasting giving away Legacy Keys

Damn! I was 30 seconds late and everything was used up! This is how people are crazy about getting those Legacy Accounts!

Team TrollCasting has been very generous in giving away free Heroes of Newerth Legacy Keys! They said they're doing it to reciprocate the support that we're giving them in their Facebook page. And I quote:
"Remember guys.. every 50 likes we will give away a bonus 20 keys.. so 3200, 3250 and 3300 likes.. GET US THERE!!!"
This is what they said. So I guess we just have to wait for the next release. Here's what their Facebook Page looks like a few minutes a go:

And to those who were wondering what's the importance of getting a Legacy account, well, the first thing that goes to my head is that you got access to all of the old heroes and that's about it!

So there. If you're tired of using the heroes that were 'free' to use in the game, then go and like Team Trollcasting's Facebook page and wait for them to release another set of keys.

Cheers!

New upcoming Hero - Midas

Midas is a new hero coming out this Friday in Heroes of Newerth. He is a ranged strength hero. The video basically covers everything. It would seem that you need to level all of the skills as all of them are important but you might need to prioritize the 2 aoe skills first. This hero has a strong potential as he could be a hitter who has useful spells. Not to mention a stun when he successfully hits two of his spells.

HoN PSR Boosting and Accounts

I believe I wrote something in the past about PSR farming. I can't believe that it's still happening right now. Take a look at this URL - http://psrmasters.com/shop/

You guys should avoid these kinds of sites. I'm actually now more inspired to write articles about tips on how to increase your psr and mmr. Will be posting about it within the week.

Wards and Couriers... Do we really need them early game?

The answer is obvious. It's important noob!

Support players who don't play support really annoys me so I decided to repost this. A lot of people are still not doing this even in pubs. I mean a public game is supposed to be just to have fun. Well define fun in HoN. If you're losing, it's not much fun right? Even if you're killing everyone like hell, getting an immortal and all that but still lose feels bad.

So let me just say please read on to S2Nigma's reminder to the community about the importance of early warding + courier. This should be done in pubs to improve the level of game especially in SEA.

Here's the tip from S2Nigma:

Dear Heroes of Newerth community,
It has come to my attention that a lot of you think a courier does not need to be purchased at level one. Whether this lack of a courier may be due to a lack of support on your team or just general apathy does not really make a difference. I wish to make my opinion on the subject abundantly clear:
If you don't get a courier at level one, you will lose the game.
How does not having a courier guarantee you to lose the game? Well, technically it doesn't, but practically it does. The thing about not having a courier is that if you don't get a courier, the problems start as early as your mid failing hard.
"But Mr. Nigma, a good mid can win even without a courier!"
No he can't. Not if he's up against an enemy of the same skill level.
"But why? What's the big deal?"
If your mid does not have a courier, he does not have a bottle. If he does not have a bottle, he cannot bottle runes. If he cannot bottle runes, he cannot refill his bottle. If he cannot refill his bottle, his enemy will refill his bottle every time. If his enemy refills his bottle every time, his enemy has unlimited health and mana- and I think you can agree that having unlimited health and mana to be a significant advantage.
"If Middle wants a courier that badly, he should just buy it himself. Also, why doesn't he just get a bottle at level 1? Problem solved."
No. Please stop using this logic. Unlike the other lanes, a the solo player middle needs all +damage and stats he can muster at early levels else he cant compete with last hitting. It's completely unviable to go bottle at level 1. Nobody should ever have to do this.
If your team has no courier and no wards at level one, and your enemy does, you will lose middle lane against same skilled players that do. Guaranteed.
"But our team really doesn't have any Support and I really don't want to buy a courier"
Too bad. Bite the bullet. If you aren't soloing, and nobody bought a courier, you have to buy a courier. Yes, it's going to suck not having those +stats items or that buckler you should have, and yes, it's probably your team's fault, and yes, they probably screwed you over by picking those four melee heroes that you didn't need- but let's face it: buying that courier is going to significantly increase your chance of winning. So just do it.
PS: And if nobody bought wards: Buy one. You don't even need to buy two. One Ward provides your mid with the knowledge of 3 tablet spawns for the first 6 minutes of the game.

How to get the old interface of shop back | Heroes of Newerth

I really hate the how S2 games made shopping items really complicated. I still love the old UI (User Interface) of the shop. It's a lot faster to buy items and I'm used to it. I looked for the best and easy way to do it and found one in the internet. Since it helped me, I really wanna share it to everyone in the gaming community.

Here are the easy four steps to do it:

  1. Copy: this line: cg_usenewshop2 fake
  2. Open the game
  3. Press ctrl+f8 (this will open the console)
  4. Paste it in the console.

Congrats! It's all done!

HoN Hero Spotlight: Rhapsody - one of the new Int Heroes

According to S2, they will release two ranged heroes after releasing two melee heroes. Rhapsody is one of them.

For me, she's can be useful in mass casters plays because of her "spell vamp" aura. Her aoe is useful for pushing and defending lanes but her ulti kinda sucks. Her role is a support but needs survivability items for her to cast her ulti in a clash properly. Anyway, just enjoy the video. Can't wait for Garena HoN to release her. :)

Rhapsody excels at clustered team fights and both pushing and defense of team structures with her passive "spellvamp" aura and use of Disco Inferno. In order to take advantage of her early game strengths, it's advisable to max out her Staccato and Disco Inferno abilities to take advantage of the full stun duration and damage output. Rhapsody can be played effectively with little more than a blood chalice, but in order to maximize her mid- and late-game ultimate potential, it is advisable to get some survivability boosting items such as shrunken head or helm of the black legion. A Nome's wisdom is also a great pick up to further boost the effects of her passive aura.

My new headset for playing HoN

This might be out of the topic but I became really competitive nowadays. I bought my very own headset so that it will be easier to play and chat at the same time. I will see how it will improve my game tonight. Anyway here's a picture of my headset ---->

Reasons why I chose this model:

  • It's not that expensive.
  • This behind-the head headset relieves pressure and keepsme comfortable for hours.
  • The flexible, noise-canceling microphone cuts background noise. Very nice when playing HoN
  • You can plug into your sound card via 3.5 mm jacks or connect digitally to any USB port for enhanced audio.
So there you go. If I were you guys, invest in this kind of headset to be better in your game. One of the major advantages of playing HoN is that they have a built in VoIP software. So what the !@#$ is VoIP and why is it important?

VoIP means Voice over Internet Protocol. It is a family of technologies, methodologies, communication protocols, and transmission techniques for the delivery of voice communications and multimedia sessions over Internet Protocol (IP) networks, such as the Internet. Other terms frequently encountered and often used synonymously with VoIP are IP telephony, Internet telephony, voice over broadband (VoBB), broadband telephony, and broadband phone.

This is very important in playing HoN because it promotes communication between the team. One of the major reasons why we lose sometimes is because the setter thought it was a go but you guys are still far away, or sometimes the timing is not right.

I can remember Arby Jao from team flow during his DotA days communicating to everyone in the team to make sure that everyone is ready or is in there at the right moment. It's a struggle if they're not playing in the same room because he can't talk to his team mates. What more if all of us don't know each other and are just playing online.

I'm also watching Yoda in his live channel and I notice that almost everyone are making use of the voice chat. If you're not still convinced, well just look at their psrs in their match making.

Enjoy guys! GL GF

New upcoming Hero - Master of Arms

There's a new hero released in international HoN. I can't wait for it to be release in HoN Garena. I'm trying to look for updates about the specific date but failed. There's a rumor that this new guy is Engineer's lost brother. LOL

Anyway, it's great that HoN released another Hero Spotlight in their Youtube channel. If you wanna know more about this hero and get a bird's eye view on how to use him please feel free to watch the video:

Master of Arms excels with a variety of different skill and item builds. For early burst damage you can choose to either max your Q or W spells first depending on your preference, though you should always put at least one point into charged shot for the stun. If you prefer to play him more passively and farm up for the late game, you may max his weapon enhancement first, and use the damage bonuses on the electrical gun to last hit with ease. Which spell you choose to max first will provide you with different early game strengths. With maxed Q, you gain a longer disable for gank-oriented play, and With maxed W, you get early pushing power. Master of Arms can pack some serious late game damage with use of his mag gun and chance-on-hit bonus damage items such as savage mace, and charged hammer. As an agility hero, he still lacks survivability though, so it's important to also pick up health-boosting items such as shrunken head, and strength steamboots.
I will post a mini guide about this hero once I used him in an actual game.

Cheers!

HoN Garena reached 19,000 ++ online players

I was playing HoN today and I was surprised that the number of players are over 19.000 today! That was really amazing. This only shows how popular the game is in SEA. I'm imagining how many players are online in international HoN.

I still miss playing with the Europeans and Americans though. I like their attitude better that players from my homeland. Attitude wise, Filipinos should change to improve their game.

If you will keep a positive attitude you will dominate your game in Heroes of Newerth

Why are we playing the game Heroes of Newerth?
Well here are some in my list:
  1. To be entertained.
  2. To be known.
  3. To pawn noobs!
  4. To be recognized.
  5. To be a winner!
Whatever your reason for playing HoN, I know for a fact that the the bottom line is that you want to win. But how do we win each game? Well there are a lot of factors to consider. Skill could be one. And one thing is for sure, you need to have teamwork in order to win this game. This is just like basketball. You can be like Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant. But without the team behind your back, you can't win.

Anyway, here are some of my insights about why attitude plays a major role in improving your game.

Attitude can give you 100% of your game!
Let me start this off by discussing what is attitude.According to merriam-webster.com, attitude means 'a mental position with regard to a fact or state'. This means it's all about what your mind is thinking while playing the game. There are only two things on how your mental position will be towards what's happening in the game - positive or negative. Remember it's like math. Positive mindset + positive action = positive results!

Keeping a positive attitude would greatly help you dominate the game because:
  1. You have a mind set that you will win the game starting by the picks. Once the game started, when you're thinking of winning, you are already a winner. Do you believe in the law of attraction? What you think or what you wish will materialize. As quoted by Henry Ford: If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right.
  2. Learning from your mistakes. Most players would be offended when someone would call them noobs or newbies. But that's life. Everyone is new for something at some point. You just have to learn from them. Take those negative words positively so you can improve the next time you play. And also, it's better to coach some teammate whenever they commit mistakes. Try to tell them what's their blunder in one clash or in their item build in a very nice and friendly manner. You will be surprised on how they will respond.
  3. You can encourage other players. Good carries would always know what to do and would really encourage everyone when he sees that there's still a chance to win. Are you that kind of player? Even if you're just playing support but thinks that you can change a tide of the battle with your ulti, then just continue playing. E.g. Behemoth, Magmus, Kraken etc.
  4. You will always try to do something that could change the tide. Positive thinkers will always try to find a way to win the game. Most of the best Carries I know have this kind of attitude. They will really try to farm their core build to get the edge in the game. No matter how hard it is to farm. They will still try to get out in the lane and farm it bit by bit and won't die by ganks. Like what NIKE's swoosh says. JUST DO IT!
  5. You can avoid distractions like trash-talks. HoN is about skills and teamwork. If the trash-talk will go into your head, you can't focus on what you're doing. You will be affected by those non-sense talks. Remember, focus on the game and keep believing that you will win.

Increase your KDR with Pebbles!

Many people were asking me how I got my kdr so high. This was the time when Deadwood was not around yet. SO!!! It was really hard to farm for your kdr. It's either sell your team mates early game and play a farmer/carry OR play like a ganker.

I would prefer to play as a ganker because there's more advantage if you will be offensive.

1. Your carry can farm.
2. More map control.
3. More map control means more gold for everyone.
4. More gold for everyone means more items which could lead to victory!

I won't be discussing much about this hero. This is not a hero guide but a bird's eye view on suggestions on how to play a very aggressive Pebbles to dominate Newerth.

Anyway, here are a few notable problems with pebbles:
1. Low armor at early levels.
2. Mana problems at early levels.

To compensate these problems, I would buy the following items if I will lane on the side:

Iron buckler

Iron Buckler

Mark of the Novice

Mark of the Novice

Health Potion
Health Potion

Runes of Blight

Runes of Blight

If I will go mid, I will just buy a Bottle and of course request someone to buy wards for me Bottle...

By the way, I love the Blood Chalice + Bottle combo. It forces you to rune control and ward so you don't have to go home to regen. Not going home means more experience and level.

Most of the newbies should understand that Pebbles is a strength hero but has a nuker role. He can either be an initiator or a combo breaker depending on the situation. So obviously, Portal Key is very crucial. A pebbles without a PK is very useless. You can't accomplish your role without this item.

Steamboots vs Phase boots vs Striders

Well all boots have pros and cons. I love steamboots because you can punch the hero around 2x while you're doing your combo..+ you have extra damage and life. Phaseboots on the other hand makes you a better ganker early game. You can chuck people around even without pk because of the sudden movement boost.. Striders, well it's only enjoyable at early game. You can control the map better but by mid game, you will sometimes die because you just can't get out of the clash.

There are two core builds for him:

1. Pure Caster
Buy codex + Spell shards..This is very effective for squishy carries like Scout.
2. Tanky Caster
Buy  Demonic Breastplate and Behemoth's heart.

Other alternatives:

Frostfield Plate - Amor + slow
Kuldra's Sheepstick - extra disable
Void Talisman - anti hitter

There you go! Go kill more heroes to gain a higher KDR!

30 day Challenge of Matt Cutts inspired me to blog again about Heroes of Newerth

I was browsing the net while I was at work and I saw this video and inspired me. I left this blog unchanged for many months...

The video made me ask myself...What do you really want in this life? So I said to myself, I wanna play  games and share my experience with people...And Heroes of Newerth is one of my favorite games in this world. I guess I will be posting more starting this August of 2011.

Hopefully more people would play the game and enjoy as well. Here's the video though. You might also want to accept the challenge.

Busy Busy Busy

Hi

This post is just to apologise to everyone as I'm very busy at work. I'm playing Heroes of Newerth - Garena once a day now. Let's face it. To have a good life, there's a need to balance work with having fun. But anyway, I'm planning to add more posts soon. I'll keep you guys posted. :)

Stop being a scrub! be a pro! Play in Banning Draft/Banning pick game mode

Most of the time I play all pick/single draft game mode. Since I'm playing alone, it's either I get to play with a decent team or play with scrubs. The problem when you play with scrubs is that it's auto lose eating your hard earned psr. It's hard if you're playing carry and you don't have much support. Or you're supporting your carry but he simply can't play carry coz his skill level is not that good.

Now, to remove all of these excuses (playing with scrubs and all that), better play in banning drafts or banning pick. As a bit of FYI, Banning Draft (BD) is something new in HoN where two players - Blue and Pink (who serves as captains for both teams) will ban four heroes from a pool of 24 drafted heroes, then alternate ten picks from the remaining pool of 20 heroes. The sequence would be 1-2-2-2-2-1. Banning Pick (BP) on the other hand is almost the same. This was used in DotA in Captain's mode so I'm pretty sure all of you guys know this. The only difference of BP in BD is that you will ban 3 heroes and pick from all of the heroes in HoN.

Either way, these game modes make the lineup of heroes pretty much balanced. (Well that is if you ban and pick the right heroes for your team and by the way, this is not a guide for playing BD/BP but to encourage you guys to use this game mode or join this game mode in public games)

So yeah! Here are some of the benefits that I can see:

Learn how to pick. Of course this will be the first benefit when you play using these game modes. Banning and picking heroes is quite complicated than it seems. It's like playing chess, you need to think 10 moves ahead. You need to always think why did the other team picked that hero. And of course you need to decide on what strategy your captain would decide on. You will be like a in marionette shows or puppet shows and your captain will be the puppeteer. Always trust on your captain and do what he wants. Believe in him and everything will be alright. What heroes work with each other? What are the imba combos that needs to be stopped? Do you have solo laner? Is your lineup a clash lineup? focused on gank? focused on AOE? focused on pushing? etc etc etc...

Here are some examples of counters:
  • Hellbringer can counter Tempest (his ultimates can stop Tempest’s ultimate from long range even if tempest has bkb)
  • Electrician counters Hammerstorm and Jeraziah (Electrician’s ultimate - commonly known as purge, removes Protective Charm aka Repel and Hammerstorm’s brute strength)
  • Vindicator counters a lot of heroes esp Magmus, Tempest, Torturer and any other channeling heroes (Vindicator’s ultimate silences all heroes)
  • Pestilence, Rampage counter any heroes with invisibility (Pestilence’s ultimate exposes invisible heroes, Rampage’s Charge does as well)
  • Thunderbringer counters heroes that needs blink to cover better area of effect (Behemoth, Tempest, Magmus, Engineer etc.) Once you've used his ulti, these heroes can't blink in within 4 secs..

Experience playing with the pros. The more you play with more experienced players, the more knowledge and experience you can gain from each game. It's better to play one or two games with pros than 10 games with noobs.

When I was a newbie in DotA, I can still remember that everyone were just bashing me. I learned from those experiences. I noted their items, their movement, play style, skill build, hero combos etc. I guess the most obvious thing here is that you won't gain anything by pawning noobs/pawning unskilled pub players.

Learn new play styles and item builds. This goes hand in hand with experience with playing with pro players. When I was a noob, I read forums for item and skill builds. Thing is you can't research all of that information that you need. There's no perfect build for every hero. You need to adapt to your enemy heroes. Adapting might be hard coz you need experience. I've played with some players that looks kinda good in early game but in mid/late game, it seems that they're not that good. For me, the biggest difference between a pro and a noob in HoN would be doing the right thing at the right time. This is kinda debatable coz we have different views on what is right and what is wrong. You will know the answer of course after the game. You might even consider watching your replays to see if you're efficient in handling your hero. If you are a farmer, how fast did you farm? Were you able to support your team while farming your items? Or you simply dragged your team down early game? If you are a ganker/support, did you had a successful gank? were you able to stop their farmer from farming? etc etc.

So yeah. That's about it. Play with the pros to be pros. Good luck and have fun everyone. :)

Fear The Chipper - a new hero concept based from tinker tweaked by HoN

Okay! Finally, patch 0.3.2 was released and so as the new hero - the Chipper. I've posted the latest HoN changelog in championofnewerth if you want a more in-depth description of this hero.

I'm just happy that this hero was released earlier than expected. They released the concept in Facebook in April 5 but then after a couple of days, I can't imagine I'm playing HoN with this hero.

He's a great ganker and spammer. If you will check the cooldown of his first spell - Rocket Barrage, it's 1.5 seconds for god's sake! So ideally, if you got lots of mana, you can just spam and later on kill the enemy hero. His ulti (Sawblade Showdown) is also imba and can hypothetically work in synergy with other AoE heroes.

I'm actually thinking of writing a mini guide for this hero but I think I need more experience of using him. For now, maybe you can stick with mana regen items like null, stone blood, sheep stick stone etc. Of course since his main role is to gank, you need to buy a bottle and wards for rune control. I will write a more comprehensive guide for this hero once I've played 15-20 games using him. :)

I had one game against the Chiprel. His lane buddy is Armadon. It's really annoying coz the slow of Armadon's Goo and Chiprel's tar toss stacks. Armadon hits you while Chiprel showers you with missles. What a funky yet effective combo!
