Watch Dota 2 International Tournament replay - EHOME vs Mineski.Infinity

Just another match in the tournament. Mineski should really improve their game and adopt to the international gameplay.

My thoughts on this match:

Good picks from both teams.

Nice start for EHOME. Bloodlust on mid and then killed Sandking at bottom.

Bad choice from Mineski to just pressure top and let the other lanes be ganked. Every time Mineski is trying to gank, it's almost a failure.

We can really see a huge difference in the experience and how they utilize their picks. I guess Mineski is just trying to farm and evade clashes but EHOME has just too much experience in ganking and making the most of Keeper's teleport and Raijin's ulti. EHOME has just too much map control.

The score ended with a 44-11 score. This only shows how much difference there is between the teams. Mineski should do more LAN sessions or some scrims with other people in SEA or if possible in EU.

HoN PSR Boosting and Accounts

I believe I wrote something in the past about PSR farming. I can't believe that it's still happening right now. Take a look at this URL - http://psrmasters.com/shop/

You guys should avoid these kinds of sites. I'm actually now more inspired to write articles about tips on how to increase your psr and mmr. Will be posting about it within the week.

This post is just to apologise to everyone as I'm very busy at work. I'm playing Heroes of Newerth - Garena once a day now. Let's face it. To have a good life, there's a need to balance work with having fun. But anyway, I'm planning to add more posts soon. I'll keep you guys posted. :)

Newerth Guide HoN beta key giveaway - 2 keys to be given

I just checked my gmail account . I received an email from Heroes of Newerth last Feb 15 with a subject of: 'Beta Invites to Heroes of Newerth for your Friends'. It seems that I received 3 beta invites. I think they're doing this because of the valentines season. Give an invite to your friend. Give love! lol Here's their email:

Since all of my friends have invites already, I've decided to give them away! I gave my beta keys in the past as well but apparently there were more and more noob HoN players around. I don't want to mess around the community by adding more scrubs to the closed beta. This is why I've decided that I'm going to give these keys to deserving people only. I have 2 left coz I gave one to my friend who's borrowing my account.

So if you think you're deserving to receive a beta key, all you have to do is write a dota hero guide of your choice. It could be a mini guide. Perhaps 500 words minimum. Please be specific in the role of the hero, items and strategy. This way, I can see if you're taking HoN seriously. You won't be writing an article if you're not into it right? Am I making any sense?

You can comment your hero guide in this post if it's really short and concise. You may also opt to email it to me at natzikun[at]gmail.com. I will be updating this post once I've sent out the beta keys. Cheers! :)

P.S. If I like your hero guide, I'll add pictures for it and post it in this blog. You can show it to your friends. Don't forget to include your IGN (in game name).

farm your psr using Chronos! - a chronos mini hero guide

My friend is borrowing my account in HoN. When I played last weekend, I was surprised to see that my psr went down from 1700++ to 1679. Moreover, my K/D ratio became 1:1. Pretty low. So yeah. I think it's safe to assume he had a hard time playing in the 1700 level considering he's still a beginner. :)

I really want to join 1700 level games so I've come up with a way to uplift/'farm' my psr using Chronos. Why Chronos? Because he's an IMBA hero. Because of his major rework, he's pretty strong early game and pretty much more powerful in end game. His ulti is more useful now and could turn the tide in an instant.

Since I've been playing Chronos in about ten straight games, I've played around with the items and came up with a mini guide. I wanna share it with you guys. Let me know what you think. :p

Chronos

The greatest inventors of the Human Legion dreamed of making an army of machine warriors to spare humans the bloody cost of war. Only one was ever created, for no one could ever find a way to quicken him. When the Hellbourne fed a stolen soul into its mechanical shell, they brought the Chronos to life and gained the benefit of this artificial monster's mastery over time itself.

Time Leap

Chronos teleports himself through space and time to a target location. Any nearby enemies are damaged and slowed.

Level 1 : Range 700,50 Magic damage on impact, 10% Movement slow for 3 seconds
Level 2 : Range 900,100 Magic damage on impact, 20% Movement slow for 3 seconds

Curse of Ages

Steals 1/2/3/4 Agility per hit, debuff lasts 10 seconds. Each debuff is individually timed
* Four consecutive hits on the same target will lock that target in time (stun) for 1 second
* While someone is stunned by Curse of Ages, Chronos can not build charges towards another stun or steal any agility
* Does not stack with Brutalizer
* No longer propagates to illusions

Chronofield

Chronos creates a field of energy that exists outside of time. All units caught inside the field are frozen, incapable of any actions. Chronos is immune to the rift's effects and may move freely.
Level 1 : Range 500 lasts for 3 seconds
Level 2 : Range 550 lasts for 4 seconds
Level 3 : Range 600 lasts for 5 seconds

Mana Cost 150/175/200

Cooldown 120 seconds; Radius 400

This ability can be boosted by Staff of the Master.
Staff Effect: Increases duration from {3,4,5} seconds to {4,5,6} seconds.
* Allies can now move and cast while inside, but everything they do is reduced by 90% speed (MS, AS, CS)
* With Staff of the Master, the slow is reduced from 90% to 80%

Introduction:

Basically, Chronos is a carry hero. He's almost useless before in early game because he can't do anything without his ulti. But now, the buff on his first skill can help in ganks a bit. It's better to have minimal damage than none. :)

Main Strategy:

The main strategy is to farm early game. Kill steal in early game if applicable to get more money coz you will need it by mid and late game.

Game play:

Skill Build:

I usually max out the first skill first to get damage and the range of the leap. As for the 2nd and 3rd skill, it depends to your lane enemies. If you think you can kill early game. Like for example you have an electrician with you, of course you will try to level your 3rd skill before your 2nd skill. If there are a lot of nukers/casters, prioritise your 2nd skill first to play defensively. For sure you will get nuked whenever you try to get a creep. Always get your ulti in lvl 6,11 and 16.

Early game:

I usually start the game with a hatchet and a lot of consumables. Why get consumables over stat items? The answer is! Your main goal is just to farm anyway. But this doesn't necessarily mean that you won't help if your lane partner will get raped. Of course you will still try to save him like using your normal attack. But as much as possible, get all the creeps that you can get. Be greedy. Prioritise money shot over creep denies. Let your team mate do the denies.

I lane on one of the sides to buy my shield and battery later. If ever your lane gets ganked, just run away. If ever your team mates decided to gank your lane. Try to kill steal so you can have early boost of items.

Mid game:

By mid game, this is around 15-30 minutes. You should have at least steamboots, couple of soulscreamrings and lifesteal. You still farm like crazy. Avoid ganks. Remember to keep 1 townportal so that you can just timeleap and tp out whenever you're in danger. Whenever you have your ulti up, try to help your team mates especially when defending a tower.

Late game:

Late game will always be easy as long as you got around 3 items. Just rape everyone!  Leap in and kill!
Item builds:

This is the tricky part. A lot of people don't know what to do or what to prioritise after getting dominator/mask of madness.  First thing  to do is check your teammates and enemies. Are you the only carry hero? If so, you can get furry to get a farming tool. This is an assurance that you can get another item in around 10 mins or so. But if you will get furry, try to get damage and attack speed at the same time. e.g.mjolnir. :) Then just get more damage like crit/mkb.

Sorry if I'm still using dota terms coz my brain still sticks with dota..lols But anyway, if there are a lot of nukers, try to get S&Y first so will get a bit of damage. I still prefer getting mjol after S&Y then get crit to get maximum damage output. S&Y is cool in HoN because you can also slow the enemy. Really useful in ganks in late game.

If there are a lot of disables, always try to get bkb. BKB+mask of madness works for Chronos. BKB is also good against FA/moonqueen. BKB + shieldbreaker rips off casters...

Some special strategies.

Creep pulling:
I think everyone knows this. Just a bit of FYI, you can multispawn by pulling the creeps at the right time. (every 51-53rd sec) You can do this by your self by dominating a neutral creep and try to pull the strong creep camp/ancients or ask your support to do it. Maybe 5-10 stack of creeps/ancients can give you a lot of gold. Always ask your teammate to stick around for the xp and if ever the enemy will try to gank you while you're getting it.

Hero synergy:
Chrono's ulti can basically work with a lot of ulti's. FA's ulti...Plague's Ulti..You guys know this..

Bottom line:
The bottom line for Chronos is to farm early game. If you failed to farm and get your items, your team is sure lose unless you got other carries that could be imba. Always think. There's no perfect build for this hero that will be written here. Always try to counter the enemy as much as possible. I will be posting more HoN hero guides soon.

Here's the result of my hard work:
I hope you enjoyed reading this. Cheers!

hon - the real dota killer

This weekend, after jogging in UP Diliman with my girlfriend, I finally had the chance to play again in BlueSkies. To my surprise, most of the good DotA players have completely switched to HoN. At first I was reluctant to ask them why coz we were the ones who were initially excited about the launch of HoN and these guys were the ones who were saying that HoN won't be that successful so they'll stick with DotA. Now they ate their own words.

I asked the main reason why they switched. They said that HoN is the new "DotA". Since HoN is better and it's an online game, there are more tournaments and it's more accessible to 'good' but busy players because they can simply go online and play at home rather than going to a LAN shop. They also told me that they were surprised that there were actually good players in the 'Asian' servers - Malaysians, Singaporeans, Thai and Indonesians. They also get to know new picks, plays and strategies.

I always play in the lowest ping rooms so normally I get to play with Filipinos. The bad thing is that some players still adopt the GG client style - which is quite noobish and childish in a way. Like they will trash talk you before the game starts. Then if the game is not working as it is for them, they will either disconnect or just ruin the game by feeding the enemies. Well, maybe they're doing it because they simply know that the stats will be reset anyway once the game was officially launched. And it sucks coz this happened in a 1650 psr level game. :(

I also visited a couple of shops in the South (Paranaque and Las Pinas) and in the Miniski grounds (Pasay). It seems that almost half of the players are already switching to HoN. I would assume this is also happening to other big shops who prefer competitive gaming.

So yeah! Clearly, HoN is becoming more and more famous. Their game play improvements and engine advantages shoved DotA on the side. HoN has become indeed the real DotA killer.

LOL anyone? (League of Legends)

So the closed beta was finished. Now it's open! What do you think guys? I don't know how to get the beta key but I know that my brother is playing League of Legends - a game inspired by the Defense of the Ancients map [DotA] for Warcraft III. The game was developed and published by Riot Games.

Just a bit of FYI, Guinsoo (Steve Feak), the previous designer of Dota is involved in the development of LoL. They used the original DotA created by Eul in Reign of Chaos. This explains why the item 'Eul's scepter of Divinity' must be created first before you get to form 'Guinsoo' - the sheepstick.

Anyway, moving on my brother said that the Philippines was banned in the US server but isn't in the European servers. So yeah! I can assume that a few Filipinos were playing LoL even if ping is high that results to spikes and delays.

UPDATE:
Well, I heard a rumor that there's a new patch that was released and there's an exclusive Asian server. Hmmmm. I think I need to try LoL but the thing is the play style is totally different in DotA/HoN. *sob

It has been a while since my last post about dota. Maybe some of you think that I've totally forgotten about it but no. I'm still playing a couple of games every weekend and then the rest HoN!!! LOL Actually I just played yesterday with some of my LAN buddies. :D

I was not surprised that Icefrog did a major work in Doombringer. He's rebalanced and reworked. His new skills were kinda imba. It's just right coz DoomBringer won't be considered a threat unless he has his ulti.

-Cooldown: 110

My thoughts:

Like I've said, the new DoomBringer is kinda imba. Why did I say that? Here are my reasons:

Gaining extra abilities is imba. Devour now is very unbalanced. Just imagine, gaining extra abilities by just devouring a creep. For example in laning, you can devour an Alpa wolf for extra damage. If you want a clash winner, you can get a Kobold beast for endurance aura. If you're a heavy hitter, you can get a banshee! Imagine a free 6k worth item by just eating a creep. Imba isn't it?

He is a threat even without his ulti. With his rework, doom can now kill even without his ulti. He can get a good ability like purge, stomp or clap then just attack you until you die. Why? because doom can get items faster than anyone else in the game. Even if you have a strong lineup of heroes, you can't stop doombringer from farming items. A cheap item like Vanguard can be farmed in less than 10 mins. What will you do with a fat strength hero + block in early game?

More dynamic play style. Because of the rework, doom can now play support and carry. He's still a good farmer. Gold wise, devour was nerfed but his second skill makes him almost impossible to kill. If you can't kill the enemy, that means more money and more items for him. Even with 2 stunners around is not enough, Doom can simply outrun them. Moreover, Doom can constantly pressure lanes with enough wards. Doom can dominate the lane where you are in and outfarm enemies. Doom can be a very good hitter now because of extra abilities.

My mini guide to the new Doom:

I'll share with you my mini guide in the reworked Doom. Some of you guys might not agree with me, but this build worked for 5 games straight so just read on and try it. :D

~at the start of the game, get a Hatchet, a courier and 1 tango. Farm until you get your crow and bottle then start spamming your spells like crazy.

~i usually get devour, scorched earth, devour, lvl death?, doom, lvl death and so on...depending on lvl of most enemies

~get boots early as possible so you can kill right away

~you may opt to get cheezy items right away like dagon. You may also try the sneaky doom! use lothars. Or the usual build, Radiance + protective items (vanguard/heart of tarasque)

Edit:
I just tried this yesterday. Early treads + Vanguard + pointbooster (for aghanim) is also good. If you can tank early game, you can have a good clash. :)

Heroes of Newerth Beta Key Registration

Okay guys, I think you will have to be patient this week coz the official hereos of newerth facebook will be giving away beta keys this week. I saw the update the other day but forgot to post it. To those who don't have a Facebook account yet, I think it's about time for you to create your Facebook account. Once you've finished signing up, search for "Heroes of Newerth". Be one of their fans to receive an update. They will give the url in one of their updates. Here's the message:
24 hours of open beta registration coming this week. We will update all our fans with the special URL to get into the HoN beta. Keep your eyes peeled and you can be part of the HoN craze soon enough! :)

HoN players should never 'farm' their psr

I'm doing a daily routine today - reading other people's blogs/sites. This post caught my attention.

When I first started playing HoN, I was really excited because of the new interface, stat tracking and ladder rankings. The automated reports seemed complete and accurate. Furthermore, there's this so called cheat and leaver protection so I assumed players with 1600 psr would be good enough, but NO.

I was actually surprised that playing in psr 1600-1680 was hell. Every time I play without any buddies around, I can feel that we're like losing within the first 15 minutes. Everyone wants to farm and play as a 'carry'.

In pro level dota, skilled players assume that everyone knows what to do. Your team lead might be briefing you of what's the basic strategy but implementing and carrying out the strat will only work if everyone knew their respective roles. In HoN, the same rule of the thumb applies. If you're a 'high' psr player, you're expected to do the 'right' moves. e.g. If you're Magmus (Sandking), you're expected to be a pro stunner. Once you've seen a chance of a nice stun, you'll do it right away without other people pinging you or shouting at you. You're expected to roam around and kill.

Playing with newbies is actually OK if it's for fun. You can technically farm good stats coz you can just kill them all and win the game. But the thing is you'll never learn more. There's no challenge. There's nothing to gain by owning scrubs. The big point is playing with a noob high psr player totally ruins the game.

Back in the days of Garena, there were lots of cheat exploits because most of the people won't update their Warcraft version. In HoN, if you want to manually farm your psr, it would need more resources. e.g. spare beta keys and a high powered machine that can open two HoN clients. Here's an excerpt in heroes-newerth.com that explains how to do it:
We have discovered it is possible to increase your Heroes of Newerth account statistics such as KDA ratio and PSR using multiple accounts. If you have spare beta keys you can create new accounts to use on the HoN servers; you can also run multiple instances of HoN. Therefore, make a private game with your main account and use a subsidiary account in a second instance to join the game and go on the other team. Then start feeding kills to your main account – we have managed to farm about 200 kills in 30 minutes using soulstealer against madman, thinking about what items to buy, what spots on the map to use etc. Sure enough, the unanswered kills get added to your account and your KDA improves.

Although less effective, you can also farm PSR. You need to have many subsidiary accounts and as many instances (or many friends with second accounts) running – and make a team on the enemy of 4 or 5 accounts, against your 1. This will ensure you gain a lot of PSR from the game. You then win the game and your PSR will increase. You can only do this a few times as when your PSR gets too high, it will stop letting you gain any because of the mathematic algorithm involved. Even if you make more and more fresh accounts, a team of 4 1500 players against your 1 will still not let you gain a lot of PSR at all later on.

Personally, I would say it's not worth your time to do this. Play a normal game and get genuine experience. I don't care about my stats. My PSR is almost 1.7k. My kill/death ratio is like 1.1 coz I play ‘carry’ and support. The point is everyone has a role to play. Usually if you play support, there's a higher chance that you'll die in every clash. Not everyone can be the 'star' in the game. Unless the casters totally owned early game.

I guess that's about it. I just don't want to see high psr noobs playing with pros coz it ruins the game so much.

Champion of Newerth

Since I've just realized that I'm into HoN, I decided to launch a new blog - Champion of Newerth. This blog will be dedicated to all HoN hero guides, strategy, item builds, clan wars and other useful information that I can scour over the internet. I will start writing guides next year since I'm sort of busy with work at the moment and Christmas season is almost there at our doorstep so I might do a little shopping as well.

So yeah, I'll be working on that blog next year and I still hope to see you guys online at HoN. :)

A generous blog that gives Heroes of Newerth Beta Keys

I was somewhat amazed by the sudden spike of traffic in this blog. At the moment, it has reached a hundred page views per day just because of my posts about HoN. So I think, a lot of people are still looking for Heroes of Newerth free beta key giveaways. And of course, I'm your 'Mr. Nice Guy' who wants to help out other gamers find what they want.

I found a generous blog today that is also willing to give Heroes Newerth Beta Keys. However, looking at the blog, it seems dodgy and barely has content. I personally think the blog was made for Google Adsense so I would say you may try at your own risk. Not to mention that you need to post your email addresses in the comment section. But I guess it's worth a try. And if you fail, you may still opt to try my recommended link which was included in my older post.

So that's about it. I'll try to research more on other means of getting free beta keys and let you guys know. Cheers!

I'm giving away 4 Heroes of Newerth Beta Keys

I had fun last night playing HoN with my friends. Nymphora is soooo imba. We won three games in a row because we have her in our line up. She's like Ezalor because she has this chakra like skill but has a healing skill too. A walking 'fountain'. LOL

Anyway, I was checking my email today and I was surprised that I still have 4 Heroes of Newerth Beta Keys. This is something I can give to the gaming community. And take note, I'm giving it for free. So if anyone is interested, just send me a quick email or comment on this post. Please don't forget to include your email and the reason why you deserve to have a beta key. Cheers! :)

Edit: aww...no more invites left... sent one to Patrick, kunkka69, funeral4afriend and ahmetveli1. Don't worry guys. Once HoN released new sets of keys I'll post about it and let you guys know. I'll also ask a couple of friends if they still have spare invites. Hmm, I think my brother has spares but wouldn't give them easily. He said there's a need for an audition or something...LOL

Selling of Heroes of Newerth Beta Keys

Heroes of Newerth or simply 'HoN' is a dota based game developed by S2 games. It's basically a mirror image of dota with better graphics and engine. I started to love this game generally because of the graphics and all other add-ons that Warcraft cannot provide. e.g. in-depth tracking of individual statistics, matchmaking, and in-game VOIP.

However, I just noticed that some people were actually selling FREE HoN beta keys. They were supposed to be free but they are selling it. It just sucks to know that some people tend to see this is a business opportunity and abuse the interest of other people. I got my free beta account early coz I was updated on the game's development. But what about other people? What about hard core dota players who were so hooked up on playing DotA and didn't realize right away that they will fall in love with the HoN once they get to see it. Or maybe busy casual gamers who were literally busy with work or their respective businesses and would just drop by a LAN shop once a week.

Call me rude or bastard, but guys please give the gamers what they deserve. Selling Beta keys is a cheap way of earning money. Beta keys were given out by S2 games so that their developers could enhance and balance the game. Once again, please don't sell what is supposed to be free.

natziboy playing Travian

I never thought that I would be addicted to this browser game. I first noticed some of its ads 2 years ago, and now, I believe it's everywhere. I can see the ads in Facebook, Friendster and almost all gaming related sites. Due to my intrigue, I tried playing it and noticed that it's really addicting.

There are three races to choose from: Romans, Teutons and Gauls. For me, these races can be compared to the very famous Starcraft wherein Romans=Protoss, Teutons=Zerg, and Gaul=Terran. Why? Just try playing the game and you will find out. :)

Fun DotA/Warcraft Quizes in Facebook

The summer's heat is driving me crazy. I can't take a doze or concentrate reading one of those ebook for dummies. And SO!! I decided to log-in to my Facebook account and take one of those funky quizzes.I'm surprised to see how DotA became famous nowadays. Some of the fans even made these fun quizes in Facebook (though they have a few grammatical errors, it's fun anyway). I just want to share my results:

What is your Warcraft 3 Hero?

My result: The DeathKnight

You think your the man. The Boss. God of the Universe. Your Cocky as hell and you don't give a damn about it. Your the smartest, bravest, sexiest, coolest, and best in every way. You don't give a DAMN about other people, its all about you cause your God.

My Comment:I'm amazed with my result! As you can see in my subdomain name: (fallenpaladin) that's me! Many people were asking why my alias is BaronMorte. This alias is actually a name of a Death Knight in Warcraft 3. His story is somewhat similar to what I've experienced in true life so I decided to adopt the name. For the people who don't know the story of how Arthas turned to a Death Knight, you can read the story in WoW: Wrath of the Lich King.

What is your Dota Hero?
My result: Yurnero

Seeks Perfection, Yurnero is very adept at finding thing, and a GODLY FINISHER in DotA. If you are people who seek perfection and have high curiosity, then Yurnero is suit you.

My Comment:

Hell yeah! I love Yurnero! One of my favorite heroes in DotA. Why? Because he is strong early game to late game. He can gank and be an imba farmer. I bet he can be picked in a pressure line up because he can farm deep past the second tower. :D How to do this? Blade Fury+Town Portal is the way!

Countering the Crystal Maiden Strategy (unfinished again..)

I was amused by the massive use of Crystal Maiden nowadays. The use of the Maiden strategy in DotA started when her aura was buffed and became a global aura. (I'm not sure what version that was though) And now, she's used for special strategies and can be usually seen as first pick in both in local and international tournaments.

1st pick Crystal Maiden I guess is an "open" strategy. In my opinion, almost any hero can be synergized with CM. The main goal of picking CM is to dominate the lanes by spamming spells. This strategy is strong but somewhat effective to a certain level only because there are some ways to counter the maiden strategy.

Mass Casters

Even if let's say the enemy has free mana regen, using mass casters can still dominate the lanes. Something like Lion+Leshrac, Sandking+Lina..etc..OR maybe some heroes with cheesy combos that can kill in one blow. Casters with early double spells can still kill a strength hero with just one or two spells. You may also opt use Ezalor to counter the spam by also spamming :D spam wars!!

Early Push

Since, the core strategy of the maiden strategy is to dominate the lanes and get an early kick start for items, their hero choice isn't that good clash wise. Mostlikely their strat is a double or triple press. This play style is done so they can over farm and play defensively. However, there's still luck in forcing them to clash if your heroes can win the clash and push early as well.

Jungling

Heroes that can't be seen in the map of course can't be spammed with spells. A jungling Enigma, Axe or Beast Master would somehow reduce the loses in lanes. But of course, this can be countered as well by observer wards and constant movement of gankers.

I'm pretty sure you can also think of other ways but these are the things that just popped to my mind while I was writing this post. Strategy has become a major issue nowadays and one post cannot really discuss a very lengthy detailed strategy on how to counter one strategy. But then again, team play, proper execution, communication and sticking to the play will always be the key to win. Cheers! :D
